Leading the State of Wyoming for population growth, Bar Nunn Casper WY real estate is booming. The 2-square-mile community is situated in Natrona County at an elevation of 5,285 feet in the heart of Wyoming. Since the 2000 census, the number of residents in Bar Nunn WY homes has increased over 63 percent.
Several factors are contributing the popularity of the Bar Nunn area of western Casper real estate. One is the low cost of living, which is 14.53 percent lower than the United States average. Another has to do with the good prices for Casper WY homes in Bar Nunn, attractive for young families and retirees. The median-home cost of $186,500 is reasonable for the median household income of $48,716.
A very important contributor to the growth is the State’s accelerating energy industry. Job growth is projected to increase by 22.97 percent over the next decade and unemployment rates are also low.
People do enjoy the size of the small town of just over 1,500 people and its access to refreshing recreational options in the nearby mountains. Facilities at town parks add to the quality of life. Romie Nunn Park at the northern edge of Trails End features a playground and a shelter, Antelope Territory at Antelope Drive and Palomino Avenue features a baseball field and basketball and tennis courts, and Heritage Park on the east end of Sunset Boulevard is a nice stop for a picnic.
A few more details enhance the Bar Nunn residential experience. From a good student/teacher ratio in the schools to short commute times to low crime rates to relatively moderate weather, Bar Nunn offers a comfortable lifestyle.
Until 1952, Bar Nunn was the site of Wardwell Field and the Natrona County Airport. At that time, the U.S. Army Air Corps Base purchased another property and relocated what is now become the Casper Natrona County International Airport.
Having moved to Casper in 1918, Romie Nunn had previously owned a portion of the Wardwell Field property. He repurchased 640 acres in 1954 intending to make it a Rocky Mountain horse center. Although he registered the Bar Nunn (-N) with the Wyoming State Livestock Board, he decided to subdivide the property, calling it Bar Nunn Ranch subdivision. The subdivision became a town in 1982, a move that improved services and funding resources for the area. Those old runways became streets for the new little town.
